strictly looking at international level events, I would say it goes:
World Cup
European Championships
..........
Copa America
Olympics
Essentially everything after the first 2 you will have people skip so
they can rest over the summer. For the Copa America, all the countries
except Brazil and Argentina will send the full team while the 2 giants
will usually leave 2-3 people out. Unfortunately for americans, the
Gold cup is by far the least prestigious of the continental
championships ever since Oceania eliminated the OFC Cup. In my opinion
they should merge the Copa America and Gold Cup and make it a 16 team
tournament.
