a mistake costs a patient big. Doctors are human, and humans err.
And the last I checked, medical malpractice was the #2 cause of death
for people under the age of 40 (to automobile accidents).
In most professions, errors are harmless or trivial (or just easy to
remedy). In the medical one, it often means someone dies or ends up
with a permanent limp. And I don't see how one can advocate denying
recourse to someone who had their life ruined by a doctor's screwup,
even if it did invovle the best of intentions.
