Naurath to Swim for UVA
11/2/2009
Collegiate School senior Rachel Naurath has made a verbal
commitment to swim for the University of Virginia. She will sign her
letter-of-intent November 11.

"It was the best fit for me academically and athletically of all the
schools I looked at, and I looked at some pretty awesome schools,"
she said. "I'm really, really excited. They'll have a very good
(recruiting) class, and I look forward to being able to contribute."

Naurath's accomplishments in the pool are legend. A four-year team
captain, she holds the VIS record in the 200 freestyle (1:49.88) and 500
freestyle (4:46.78) and has won the state title in both events the past
three years. She has captured 11 VIS championships and earned all-
state honors 14 times. She's a two-time VIS female swimmer of the
meet and Richmond Times-Dispatch female swimmer of the year. She
is a four-time NISCA All-American.

Swimming for NOVA, she holds 4 team records and 3 state marks.
Among her many forays into high-level competition, she swam both the
400 free and 800 free in the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha.

"Rachel is a great competitor," said Collegiate swimming coach Mike
Stott. "She absolutely 'gets' the entire swimming process. She has a
complete grasp of what is required to succeed."

Naurath also strongly considered Stanford, Florida, Texas, and
Princeton before casting her lot with the Cavaliers.
