Kris Snider was good---but he didn't look it----he was unathletic looking
at 6-1, 160 pounds, was not flashy and played slow
Roddy Rullman---the most entertaining goalie that I have ever watched---
when he was hot--he was unreal---when he was not (his 3rd year?---he
was bad---picture in the CD with him closing his eyeas while getting
shot on---he was replaced that season by his classmate Scott Howe---
who moved back to start at D when Rodney recovered)---out of the goal
on clears--he covered a lot of turf and was like a rodeo clown messing
with a bull on rides
Mangels---saw him put one the best shots on goal that i have witnessed-
--unfortunately it was against his own team---a high, hard one in the
upper left corner over Roddy's shoulder when he was "passing" it to
Rullman on a clear
Tom Duquette---Hall of Famer---classic attacker---had as many assists
as goals---
Jay Connor---another Hall of Famer on that '72 team---attack---at 5-4,
Connor was tiny, but that didn't stop him from being UVA athlete of the
year in 1972---as he was also one of the best collegiate soccer players
in the country
Pete Eldredge---Hall of Famer--National Middie of the year and Player of
the Year in '72
that 1980's team that didn't win a national championship---classmates:
John Driscoll---middie---National Middie of the Year in 1980--"Slow" was
anything but---one of the smoothest runners I have ever seen
Kevin O'Shea---D---National D player in 1980
Mike Sotir---National D player of the year in 1981
Willie Hazelhurst---anecdote---Hazelhurst transfered to Hopkins after
the '76 season---the problem was,Coach Theil did not learn of it until the
first day of fall practice in September 1976---"has anybody seen Willy?"-
--response from team huddle---"he said something about transferring to
Hopkins"---(I was in that huddle, as short timer (cut at the end of fall
ball), walk on middie)---which was a smart move, as they beat top
seated Cornell to win the National Championship in 1978---after he sat
out a year---the story was that Hazelhurst was somewhat of a free spirit
and missed several semesters----living in Mexico---so the fact that he
hadn't been seen was not unusual
