Subject: Carraway is Cape League Pitcher of the Week...AGAIN!
Posted by: wahoo_de on Mon Aug 4 2008 10:45:57 AM
Message:

He's grown into quite a pitcher. Probably a factor in JT's decision to
sign. Carraway will definitely be our ace this season. The 1.23 ERA
and 53/9 K/BB ratio are amazing, considering that's against the best
talent in the country.

COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Carraway of the Hyannis Mets was well aware of the
importance of his start on July 28 against the Wareham Gatemen. The
Mets, who once stood alone atop the Cape Cod Baseball League’s
West Division standings, had been scuffling and they desperately
needed a quality start from Carraway, their 6-2, 200-pound right-hander
from the University of Virginia, to remain in contention. Carraway
accepted the challenge and pitched eight strong innings to lead the
Mets past the Gatemen, 5-1. His eight-strikeout, no-walk performance
earned him Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time
this season. The Cavalier senior-to-be scattered five hits and was in
command throughout. After Raynor Campbell (Baylor) opened the first
inning with a bunt single and was thrown out attempting to steal
second, Carraway didn’t allow another base runner until Kip Schutz
(Indiana) singled with one out in the fifth. He retired the Gatemen in
order in the second, third, fourth and seventh frames. Carraway’s over-
all record of 4-1 and his 1.23 ERA placed him No. 1 among all league
pitchers through games of Aug. 2. In 44 innings, he allowed just 28 hits,
walked only nine and struck out 53, the second highest total in the
league.

           PS I don't think MLB teams "missed" AC.  --  wahoo_de   Wed Aug 6 2008 7:28:15 AM
           I don't think you can completely discount AC's performance in JT's psychology.  --  wahoo_de   Wed Aug 6 2008 7:25:41 AM
               Frankly, I don't know for sure if JT **  --  gridfan   Wed Aug 6 2008 11:01:57 AM
Packer is back as well, right? **  --  MunichHoo   Mon Aug 4 2008 3:18:22 PM
Yes, but it's unclear what his role will be.  --  wahoo_de   Wed Aug 6 2008 7:26:41 AM
I'll be surprised if he's not a starter this year; if JT had returned maybe he   --  SWVAHoo   Wed Aug 6 2008 9:52:02 AM
You think Davis will be in the pen?  --  wahoo_de   Thu Aug 7 2008 11:42:00 AM
I think it's pretty likely that either Packer or Davis closes, and right now it   --  SWVAHoo   Thu Aug 7 2008 11:48:18 AM
He was only a sophmore last year so yes Packer is back **  --  14HOOExpress45   Mon Aug 4 2008 8:07:40 PM
That didn't have anything to do with JT's decision to sign.  --  walkdaddy   Mon Aug 4 2008 12:25:40 PM
I'm sure glad he is coming back. **  --  MunichHoo   Mon Aug 4 2008 11:07:39 AM
